| Manufactured homes meet high standards
The first sentence of a letter to the editor published March 26 states, "trailers, mobile homes, manufactured homes -- whatever you call them -- should be outlawed, at least in states that are prone to these horrible tornadoes." Considering the letter writer's lack of understanding that seems so obvious in that sentence, perhaps it isn't surprising that she reached such an unfair conclusion. .
Mobile home park idea doesn't fly
When residents of the Santa Maria Airport Mobile Home Park teamed up with city and county officials to try to develop a plan to relocate the park, they thought they would be further along by now. However, their idea to move the park to another piece of airport property remains grounded by Santa Maria Public Airport officials, who are not interested in new residential development within their boundaries. Residents of the 96-unit park along with Santa Barbara County Supervisor Joe Centeno and the Santa Maria Valley Affordable Housing Committee are focusing their efforts on a 23-acre site near Pioneer Park, south of Foster Road near the county public works yard, as a possible relocation spot. Centeno and the others on the committee are looking to establish partnerships between agencies to tackle the valley's affordable housing problems.
Council brings MHC designation back to LUB
Last Tuesday, town council made a much-debated decision regarding the future of mobile home parks in Cochrane. Town council amended the Land Use Bylaw (LUB) to introduce Residential Manufactured Housing Community District (MHS) and Residential Manufactured Housing District (MHR) into the bylaws list of districts. Councillor Truper McBride said this change is an important part of the towns tool kit. If were serious about affordable housing this is how were going to get there, he said. Councillor Ken Hynes also supported the change, although he was not convinced of a positive outcome. It really is a question of is this a useful tool, he said. I think it is a tool and whether or not it determines more affordable housing in Cochrane is yet to be determined, however, I will support the action. The proposed amendments were requested by council due to discussions on the fate of the current trailer court, and in response to the MHC designation being replaced in the new LUB by Residential Multi-family (R-M).
Injunction speeds up delivery of home
A Springfield man who has been living in his garage and travel trailer for the past seven months has moved a step closer to getting the modular home he paid for last October. The Missouri attorney general's office Thursday ordered Dogwood Homes of Springfield to deliver by May 7 the modular home Richard Wycoff bought last year after his home blew up in a natural gas explosion. .
